Mahathir used the term Islamization in Malaysia. Mahathir’s Islam played a key role in his political discourse.
He focused on the following key terms:
• Secularization is unacceptable.
• Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon Him) message and ALLAH’s command emphasize working hard to achieve materialistic success.
• How a Muslim should behave and live morally. His sayings like: “the jihad of the Muslims leading the Malaysian government” conceptualized every Malay should be a Muslim.
Due to this religious-based discrimination, Malaysian land had become imprisoned for non-Muslims. Mahathir believed that Islam is a true religion and science can not beat it. In his words; “Science can give the answers that how things happened but it can’t furnish answers to why things happened as they happened”. According to Mahathir Islam can never be divided into the sacred and profane domains.
Mahathir tried to sustain Social Darwinism with Religious ideologies. Therefore, he always believed that their Religion and science are competitive with each other. His approach was rationalistic where he intermixed religious thoughts to gain the support of Malaysians and to encourage them at the same time. But nature is based on binary opposite laws. Mahathir also had to face a lot of issues based on ethnic diversity, political affiliation, and Religious discrimination. No one can be perfect so, certain mistakes were made by him as well in ordering Religious ideas and rationalism with the evolutionist approach (Social Darwinism).
There is no doubt that Mahathir has had a successful career in the political arena despite this fact still there are certain questions about his political decisions and affiliations. Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Sunday that the Muslim world’s most experienced and accomplished statesman, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, faced the same difficulties as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
In a tweet on Sunday, Khan shared a recent blog post by the Malaysian premier and said:
“He [Mahathir] is confronted with an entrenched pol mafia that has bankrupted and indebted Malaysia, leaving state institutions devastated.”
Imran khan’s strategies did not work in Pakistan because he had not been given enough time to apply them. He had eliminated by a vote of no confidence motion within three years, on the contrary, Mahthir survived for almost 10 years.
