Pakistan Railways to start Greenline Train in January. Pakistan Railways (PR) intends to start operating the Green Line Passenger Train between Islamabad and Karachi in this month.
A media report claims that the trains would have two A.C., citing an official PR source. five A/Cs in the parlours Six AC standard coaches, four to five business class coaches, and six AC standard coaches.
The choice was made in accordance with the instructions given by Khawaja Saad Rafique, the minister of railways. The minister also gave the officer in charge instructions to cut the Green Line’s Lahore to Karachi travel time to under 20 hours.
The source further stated: “It will aim to provide the best travelling facilities including high-quality food and keeping the ticket price affordable. Besides, a separate LCD will be installed on each seat of the AC Parlour to let passengers enjoy movies or videos through headphones.”
In order to better serve the public, PR has been publicizing about its ambitions to introduce brand-new, high-tech, high-speed passenger bogies. According to a recent media source, these bogies, which cost $149 million to buy from China, are not operational.
These bogies’ brakes have a serious mechanical problem. At any speed, the brakes cannot work properly due to a lack of pressure.
The report further adds that the government had sent 88 Pakistan Railways (PR) officers to China to inspect the bogies. However, despite a two-week visit, none could point out this critical mechanical fault.
Additionally, it was alleged that each officer who travelled to China was paid $100 per day for their work, which, at the current currency rate, equates to $123,200 or almost Rs. 2.79 crores.
According to the chief mechanical engineer Mohammad Haseeb, the bogies are undergoing maintenance to get them back in working order and certain technical problems are being fixed.
