ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has recommended a rise in the price of natural gas of up to 74% starting on July 1, which is intended to drop a new bomb at a time when the country’s citizens are struggling to make ends meet owing to surging inflation.OGRA increases sui gas price by 74% from July.
OGRA increases sui gas price by 74% from July. The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) would each be permitted to raise gas rates by up to 74.42% and 67.75%, respectively, in accordance with the recommendation.
Ogra’s decision will be put into effect after receiving federal government clearance. The choice will be automatically carried out if the federal government does not approve it within 40 days.
Ogra’s ruling states that a rise in gas prices of Rs406.28 per mmbtu for the SNGPL and Rs469.28 per mmbtu for the SSGC have been allowed.
The SNGPL’s current average price per mmbtu is Rs545.89, whereas the new price following the execution of Ogra’s ruling would be Rs952.17.
Similar to this, the SSGC’s current pricing per mmbtu is Rs692.63, whereas the new price would be Rs1,161.91.
Ogra’s decision will be applied after the approval of the federal government and if the Centre does not approve it within 40 days, the decision will be implemented automatically.
