A Pakistani national hockey player Shahida Raza was among the 60 people killed in an immigrant boat crash in Italy a few days ago.
The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has confirmed the death of national hockey player Shahida Raza in the immigrant boat incident off the coast of Italy.
Four Pakistanis were killed in the boat crash, according to reports.
Shahida Raza, a Quetta-based athlete, and sportsperson was a member of the Pakistan Women’s Hockey Team. She played four times for the Pakistan Football Federation.

“President of Pakistan Hockey Federation Brigadier R. Khalid Sajjad Khokhar, Secretary General Haider Hussain, Chairperson Women’s Hockey Wing Syeda Shehla Raza, GM Women’s Wing Tanzeela Amir Cheema has expressed condolences to the family of former international women’s hockey player Shahida Raza (Chintu), who died due to an accident and prayed for her forgiveness,” the PFF said in a press release on Tuesday.
Earlier, at least 60 people died after a migrant shipwreck off the eastern coast of Italy, ANSA and other Italian news agencies reported on Sunday.
Some 27 bodies were found washed up on the shores of Steccato di Cutro, a seaside resort in the province of Crotone, ANSA said, adding that more bodies were spotted in the water.
The current provisional death toll of 60 will “certainly” rise, the news agency said.
“Several dead are reported among the migrants, [and] about 40 survivors,” the national firefighters’ department wrote on the Telegram messaging app, adding the migrants’ ship had run aground by the coast.
