Child dies of snake bite, Mother walks for 6 Km due to lack of road

In Tamil Nadu’s Vellore region, an 18-month-old child dies from a snake bite because his mother was unable to get to the hospital in time due to the area lacking adequate roads. After the ambulance dropped them off in the middle, the mother had to walk the child the remaining six kilometers uphill.

Parents and family members rushed 18-month-old Dhanushka to a hospital in Vellore following the snake bite incident, but the child passed on the route.

The child’s family claimed that because there was no appropriate route, it took longer to travel to the hospital, delaying the child’s ability to receive care. According to Vellore Collector, first assistance could have been given to the youngster if the family had called Asha workers. A tiny ambulance was also present at the foothills, according to NDTV.

He claimed that the parents chose to travel on motorcycles rather than get in touch with Asha employees.

The Collector added, “Efforts were already underway to lay a road to the area where around 1,500 people live scattered. Relevant online application has been done for clearance from the forest department”.

The Annaikattu Police has registered a case under the relevant sections.

Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai condemned the deeply painful incident and said that the state government is fully responsible.

“The Vellore incident is deeply painful in which a 1.5-year-old child succumbed to a snake bite as the child was unable to be taken to the hospital at the right time because of improper roads. Condolences to the child’s parents”, said K Annamalai.

“A death of a child due to lack of proper road facilities is unacceptable. It was even worse when the child’s parents had to walk kilometres carrying the child’s body. This is the height of misery that no one should experience,” he added.
