Why has PEMRA banned Geo drama serial ‘Hadsa’? The tragic Lahore-Sialkot Motorway rape incident that took place a few years ago is the subject of Geo’s drama serial Hadsa, which has been banned from broadcast by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
The Geo drama series Hadsa, which has been airing daily at 7:00 pm since August 21, 2023, has reportedly drawn a lot of criticism across the nation for depicting the heinous crime, which could cause trauma for the victim.
Why has PEMRA banned Geo drama serial ‘Hadsa’?
On its Twitter / X account @reportpempra, PEMRA claims to have received numerous complaints from viewers regarding the drama series’ theme, requesting that the regulator ban its broadcast in the country.
Additionally, Barrister Khadija Siddiqui, Advocate High Court, has filed a complaint with PEMRA against the subject of the drama serial with Barrister Muhammad Ahmed Pansota, Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan, and requested that action be taken against it in accordance with Section 27 of PEMRA Ordinance 2002.

After keeping an eye on Geo’s drama series Hadsa, the regulator determined that its plot was highly inappropriate, disturbing, and did not accurately represent Pakistani society. PEMRA has also come under fire for doing nothing to stop the drama serial itself.
Therefore, PEMRA has banned the broadcast of Geo’s Hadsa on television. “Broadcast/re-broadcast of drama serial ‘HADSA’ is hereby prohibited immediately under Section 27 of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2007,” stated PEMRA.
“The matter is further being referred to the Council of Complaints for appropriate recommendations to the Authority for final decision,” it added.
