Flash Floods once again in D I Khan after torrential rains

Flash Floods and hill torrents hurtling down Koh-e-Sulaiman and South Waziristan Mountains once again hit Dera Ismail Khan District wreaking havoc on infrastructure in several areas of the District after torrential rains, here on Thursday.

The flash floods and hill torrents wreaked havoc in the Tehsil Kulachi, Tehsil Daraban, Tehsil Prova, Village Budh and the suburbs of D I Khan and caused many difficulties for the locals for past several days but after the torrential rains here on Thursday, the flood has intensified.

Rescue Sources said, The floodwater swept away the Saggu Bridge cutting off the D I Khan-Zhob Inter-Provincial Highway at Khutti area while a truck passing through the bridge overturned in the flood water.

After the rescue operation, the driver of the truck was rescued while the other 3 passengers were still missing.

Similarly, a house collapsed in the Phularri area of Kirri Khaisur, injuring a woman.

Due to flash floods in Budh, Hathala and Khutti areas, the connection between D I Khan and Tank cut-off due to the breakage of D I Khan-Tank Road.
According to Rescue Sources, an intense flash flood is passing through the Hazara Pakka Drain in Tehsil Prova, the flood water has also entered the village near the Pusha Bridge and of Shor Kot in the suburbs of Dera Ismail Khan city, the flood water has entered up to 2 to 3 feet in Chashma Ghee Mills on D I Khan- Bannu Road.

Meanwhile, the residents of villages near Pusha Bridge blocked the D I Khan-Bannu Road for all kinds of traffic in protest against the non-cooperation of the Government for the assistance of the flood affectees.

After the meteorological department predicted more rains in Dera Ismail Khan and its suburbs, the district administration has also announced 2-day holidays of private and government education institutes schools on August 25 (Today) and August 26.

Due to torrential rains, many power feeders trip in D I Khan District causing power outages for several hours in the district while the land routes of flood affected areas cut off due to flash floods.

Meanwhile, To effectively counter the flood situation in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a video-link meeting of all Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners was held here on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr. Shahzad Khan Bangash.

During the meeting, the relief and rescue operations in flood affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were reviewed. The meeting was also attended by SMBR, Secretary Relief and Director PMRU.
