CDA begins to construct Bhara Kahu bypass

CDA begins to construct Bhara Kahu bypass

The Capital Development Authority (CDA), under the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is exerting every effort to begin construction on the long-delayed Bhara Kahu bypass project, and a topographic survey of the route is under way.

According to sources, the project was given priority by the new CDA chairman, retired Capt. Mohammad Usman, who also visited the project site on Friday after a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office.

According to the sources, the project’s topographic survey is currently underway and will be finished in a few days. After that, the engineering design of the bypass will be finished before PC-I is finalised.

Since the chairman is giving the project his full attention and the prime minister is closely monitoring, maybe all the necessary formalities will be finished in a week or so. The formal construction work is anticipated to begin in the second week of September, according to a CDA official. We have already contracted with Frontier Work Organisation (FWO).

According to an official, we have engaged FWO, and we anticipate that project work will begin in the second week of September.

The project must be finished within four months, according to the prime minister. The official predicted that this project could be finished in four months after it had begun.

According to CDA’s preliminary calculations, the bypass would be five kilometres long, including a one-kilometer elevated road (flyover), with two interchanges at the beginning and close to the end.

It would leave from Murree Road near the Quaid-i-Azam University stop and return to Murree Road near the Jugi stop after travelling through Kayani Road and the Bhara Kahu Friday Bazaar.

It will thereafter have a one-kilometer flyover that will conclude at the end of Bhara Kahu.

According to CDA officials, the project’s cost will be decided upon when PC-I is being prepared, and it is estimated that the project will be worth more than five billion rupees. They claimed that the CDA was also investigating if a one-kilometer flyover could be built without any problems and alternatively, the existing roadways could be extended. The CDA will need to build a flyover, according to the authorities, who claimed that there appears to be no room for expansion on the current roads.

“We have decided to build a five-kilometer project with a four-kilometer road and a one-kilometer flyover. However, although we are looking into the possibility of expanding the roadways, ultimately we will have to choose the flyover, according to a representative of the civic agency.

The Bhara Kahu bypass may be finished in four months, the prime minister said earlier this month, adding that his team had previously finished large projects in Punjab in less time.

Imran Khan, a former prime minister, lay the foundation for the bypass in April 2017 to give those travelling to Murree, Galyat, and Kashmir an alternative route. However, the project, which would have covered 7.8 kilometres from Murree Road to Satra Meel, could not have been launched during his administration.

The CDA has already scrapped the project and will instead build a four-kilometer road with a one-kilometer flyover, which the engineering wing claims will be more affordable and feasible to complete in the lowest amount of time.

According to the officials, the initially planned 7.8 km project took more than two years to complete because there was a lot of cut and fill involved.

Therefore, we put that project on hold and are currently working on the road-cum-flyover project, according to a CDA engineer. He said that the 7.8 km road project’s alignment, which will be used in the future, had already been finalised.
