Disney’s Little Mermaid teaser takes you under the sea. On Friday, Disney released the first teaser for the highly anticipated live-action remake at D23 Expo. The teaser features beautiful footage of Halle Bailey’s Ariel in the ocean with the iconic part of your world in the background. Halle also sings part of the song in the teaser. The film is directed by Rob Marshall, who directed Mary Poppins Returns. Disney has announced that The Little Mermaid will be released in May 2023.

The Little Mermaid teaser begins with beautiful underwater wildlife before seeing Halle as mermaid princess Ariel for the first time. She is seen gracefully across the water before peeking into the sun. She can then be heard singing Part of Your World, which was featured in the 1989 original. Afterwards, viewers see Halle’s face for the first time, complete with Ariel’s iconic red hair.

Jonah Hauer-King will star as Prince Eric alongside Halle Bailey as Ariel. The cast also includes Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Noma Dumezweni in an unknown role. At the 2022 Oscars in March, Halle confirmed in a red-carpet interview that she would sing in the new movie, Part of Your World. Halle opened up about her experience filming the movie in a recent interview with Variety.

“I want the little girl in me and the little girls like me watching to know that they are special and should be a princess in every way. There’s no reason why they shouldn’t. That validation was something I needed,” she said. In the Variety interview, Halle also talked about identifying with Ariel at a young age, saying, “Her sense of desire, her search for herself was something I could resonate with. She knew where she was going and she wouldn’t let anyone stop her”.
