Another poignant example of community friendship is that a Hindu temple in the country’s southwestern region provided shelter for some 200 affected people displaced by the massive flood.

Displaced families, including women and children, have received refuge in Baba Madhodas Mandir in the village of Jalal Khan in the Kachhi district of Balochistan. A sacred place for Hindus raised above the ground, it serves as a refuge for people affected by the floods.

The head of the Baba Madhodas temple told local media that the pilgrims were housed in the pilgrims’ rooms. The holy place belongs to a Hindu saint who was loved by Muslims and Hindus before divorce. In addition, the cattle of those affected by the flood were housed in the nearby square.

Reports also say that locals made announcements from the temple calling on Muslims to rush to the temple to seek refuge while a medical camp was set up inside the temple.

For the Baloch Hindus, opening the temple to flood-affected families was a gesture of humanity and religious harmony that has long been their tradition.

Officials said just over a quarter of a million people remained in shelters as the country grappled with one of the worst floods in recent memory.

The death toll from flash floods triggered by heavy rains in Baluchistan has risen to 270, while more than 500,000 head of cattle have been swept away or killed in the tragedy.
