‘Party ticket linked to performance in long march’, Imran tells MPs
Imran Khan, the chairman of the PTI, has said that the performance of party workers, particularly during the impending, much-anticipated long march to Islamabad, will determine whether candidates receive party tickets for the 2019 general elections.
The former prime minister met with party representatives from the province and the National Assembly on Tuesday at the Chief Minister’s House during his daylong visit to Peshawar.
According to party insiders who spoke to The Express Tribune, the PTI leader gave the party’s parliamentarians responsibility for the impending long march known as the “Azadi March.”
They stated that each legislator has been instructed to invite at least 1,000 members of their respective constituency to join the long march.
Additionally, lawmakers will pay for the workers’ food and beverages while they attend the protest demonstration.
The goal of the national and provincial assembly members was to mobilize workers for the freedom march on behalf of the leadership.
Imran, who was ousted from the Prime Minister’s House in April of this year following a vote of no-confidence, urged the party MPs there to join the long march whenever he called and cautioned them against leaving the protest caravan midway through.
Imran, according to party insiders, advised party members not to come to him for party tickets, stating they would be given out based on performance.
A target has been set for national, provincial, and Senate members to recruit workers for the long march. The PTI long march may take place in the third week of this month, the party chief suggested on Monday.
The former prime minister gave stringent instructions to officials for the approaching march during a meeting of the district presidents and secretaries of his party’s Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) wings.
He instructed them to guarantee that all members of the populace participated fully and counseled them to view “true freedom” as “jihad.” He continued by saying that they might never achieve “true freedom” if they do not do so now.
