PM vows to help farmers, evaluates Kissan package
LAHORE: The prime minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a significant gathering over the package for farmers and ordered that their problems be addressed in a timely manner.
It was decided during the meeting that the federal cabinet and the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting will tackle the wheat support price problem.
The prime minister also gave the go-ahead for the creation of a subsidy programme to boost cooking oil seed production. Additionally, it was resolved to form a high-level committee to oversee the projected outcomes of the farmers’ package selections.
In order to address farmers’ concerns regarding the cost of fertiliser and energy, PM Shehbaz Sharif also directed the provinces to prepare a subsidy package.
Tariq Bashir Cheema, the federal minister for national food security, Ahad Cheema, the PM’s advisor, and other relevant authorities were present. Marriyum Aurangzeb, the minister of information and broadcasting, Ishaq Dar, the minister of finance, and Rana Sanaullah, the minister of the interior, all participated by video link.

It should be noted that hundreds of farmers staged a protracted demonstration in Islamabad last week under the name of Kissan Ittehad, demanding lower power prices and material subsidies.
After extensive negotiations and promises from the government that their issues would be resolved, the protest was called. A team of farmers met with the prime minister as well.
Following the discussions, the prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, announced that the government would announce the historic Kissan package for the advancement of the agricultural industry next week. He claimed that agriculture served as the foundation of the national economy and was crucial to the socioeconomic advancement of the nation.
The prime minister gave the committee of relevant ministers the earliest possible deadline to confer with growers’ representatives and give concrete suggestions for resolving the issues they were facing.
After reviewing the committee’s recommendations and keeping the current economic climate in mind, PM Shehbaz Sharif decided to offer all assistance feasible for the development of the agricultural sector and to safeguard the welfare of growers.
Additionally, he stated that the historic Kissan package would be unveiled at the Kissan conference soon after the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal.
