Federal government and WAPDA are responsible for food crisis in KP, says Sardar Faisal Amin
The Federal Coalition Government and Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) are responsible for the delay in the repair of the Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC), which was damaged by the recent floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
These views were expressed by KP’s Provincial Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Sardar Faisal Amin Khan Gandapur while talking to the mediapersons.
According to details, there were huge cracks in dozens of places in the Chashman Right Bank Canal (CRBC), which irrigates millions of acres of southern Punjab and parts of KP including Dera Ismail Khan, the CRBC Canal is completely destroyed for more than 3 kilometers.
Due to the delay in repair work of the flood-damaged Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) and negligence of the Federal and Provincial governments in this regard, thousands of acres of standing sugarcane crops are destroyed while the wheat cultivation is also affected due to lack of water.
In this regard, KP’s Provincial Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Sardar Faisal Amin Khan Gandapur said the Chashma Right Bank Canal has also been largely damaged by the recent floods, a high-level meeting was also held in this regard which was attended by both Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provincial governments, while the officials of WAPDA on behalf of the Federal Government participated.
“Both provincial governments were ready to release their respective funds for the repair of CRBC Canal but the Federal Government is not ready to release funds, the federal coalition government,” the provincial minister added.
Federal government and WAPDA are responsible for food crisis in KP, says Sardar Faisal Amin
He said, repairment of minors and sub-canals are the responsibility of the provincial government while of the main canal is of the federal government, the federal government will be responsible for the expected food crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and southern Punjab, including Dera Ismail Khan, due to lack of immediate repair of main CRBC canal.
Mr. Sardar Faisal Amin added, the sugar crisis may also arise due to lack of water for the sugarcane crop and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is suffering from food insecurity due to recent floods, will face further crises.
He alleged that the federal government has come down on personal interests from the KP government, is not giving the hydral shares including FATA and health cards to the province and is willing to punish the people of KP province due to the PTI government.
