Speaking Truth to Oppressed

Is documentary “Behind Closed Doors” the cause of Arshad Sharif’s death?

Arshad Sharif’s latest work, the documentary “Behind Closed Doors” and his YouTube Vlogs seem to be the reason for his assassination. But it is not confirmed yet.

Additionally, a brief video clip of journalist Arshad Sharif has been included, in which he was heard saying, “Accounts were made in the names of these low-level, low-wage workers who do not fall under the tax net.”

When deposits were made, they would eventually end up in the accounts of either Mr. Hamza Shahbaz, Mr. Salman Shahbaz, or Mr. Shehbaz Sharif. He said that individuals used to enter banks accompanied by gunmen.

Imran Khan, a former prime minister, Fawad Chaudhry Shahzad Akbar, journalist Irfan Hashmi, and other well-known figures according to sources, are featured in the Behind Closed Doors documentary, which is about the Sharif family and their alleged corruption.

Arshad Sharif shot dead

Journalist Arshad Sharif reportedly died in Kenya after being shot, according to his wife Javeria Siddique, who made the announcement early on Monday.

She wrote, “I lost my buddy, husband, and my favorite journalist today. According to the police, he was shot in Kenya.”

Asim Iftikhar, a spokesman for the Foreign Office, stated that the Pakistan High Commission in Kenya was gathering information from the authorities.

Coworkers and politicians expressed their condolences following the journalist’s loss.

“Arshad Shareef, my brother, my buddy, and my coworker, was shot to death in Kenya… It still defies belief. It’s quite tragic. Just wrong. This is hurtful. I love you, brother,” tweeted Kashif Abbasi, an anchor for ARY News.

The host of Geo News, Shahzeb Khanzada, expressed his profound sadness at the shocking news.

“Not just a coworker, but also a brother, Arshad Sharif, has passed away. I haven’t met a finer man from Islamabad to Moscow, from Dunya News to ARY. Killer shot, too cruelly,” tweeted Meher Bokhari, an anchor for Hum News.

The news of Sharif’s passing also caused Senator Azam Swati to express his shock.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar said Pakistan’s High Commission in Kenya was ascertaining information from the authorities.

Authorities in both countries are yet to confirm the journalist’s death and the circumstances surrounding it. Some Pakistani media outlets had initially stated that Sharif was shot dead but later said he died in an accident.

However, Sharif’s wife later tweeted that the journalist was shot dead in Kenya.

Condolences poured in from colleagues and politicians on the journalist’s death.

President Dr. Arif Alvi termed Sharif’s death a loss for journalism and Pakistan. “May his soul rest in peace and may his family, which includes his followers, have the strength to bear this loss,” Alvi said.

Earlier this year, police had booked Sharif, ARY Digital Network President and CEO Salman Iqbal, Head of News and Current Affairs Ammad Yousaf, anchorperson Khawar Ghumman, and a producer for sedition over a controversial interview by PTI leader Dr. Shahbaz Gill broadcast on the channel on Aug 8.

A day later, the Interior Ministry canceled the channel’s no-objection certificate citing “adverse reports from agencies” as the reason behind the decision — a decision that was later reversed after an order of the Sindh High Court.

Subsequently, Sharif left the country.

The ARY Network later announced it had “parted ways” with Sharif without citing a specific reason but stating that it expects its employees’ conduct on social media to be in line with the company policy.

The company, however, did not mention the social media post for which Sharif was let go.
