Arshad Sharif was an icon of journalism in Pakistan, says Army

Arshad Sharif was a legendary journalist in Pakistan, according to ISPR Director General Lt. General Babar Iftikhar. Adding that his death was a tragedy.

The military spokesman stated at a press conference on Thursday in Rawalpindi that it was important to ascertain the truth about Arshad Sharif’s death because false accusations had been leveled against the institutions, its officials, and the Army Chief.

Babar Iftikhar stated at the beginning of his press conference that the goal of today’s media discussion was to provide information about the shooting of journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya and the circumstances surrounding it.

Babar Iftikhar added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had been “specially briefed” about the sensitivity of the news conference. This news conference is being held in the framework of giving facts so that “truth, fiction, and opinion may be distinguished,” he said.

Additionally, he added, it was crucial to identify the causes for the development of a specific narrative and the deception of others “Also singled out for criticism was the chief of the army staff. There was an attempt to break the society apart.”

The head of ISPR described Arshad Sharif as an “icon of journalism in Pakistan” and described his passing as a “unfortunate tragedy.” He mentioned that the late journalist’s family had members who had served in the Army and said he had always understood the anguish of martyred officers.
