Iran rejects UN resolution on human rights drafted by Canada

Iran condemns the UN resolution drafted by Canada by calling it human rights abuse.Iran has rejected a Canadian-sponsored resolution on the state of human rights in the Islamic Republic that was approved by the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee, denouncing it as an instance of using human rights to further political objectives.

Nasser Kanani, a spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, claimed on Thursday that the resolution, which Canada authored with support from several Western nations, was simply a repetition of “baseless charges” made against Iran based on “misinformation” and “dishonest generalisations.”

The “one-sided” and “unrealistic” resolution is unequivocally rejected as a result because it lacks legitimacy.

The action taken by the Canadian government and other resolution backers, he claimed, “is a clear example of exploiting sublime principles and values of human rights to accomplish petty political ends.”

He added Western nations, which have a long history of systematic human rights breaches, are not in a position to give suggestions on human rights to the Iranian government and population due to their efforts to foment Iranophobia and discredit Iran.

According to the Iranian spokesperson, such dialogue should be founded on “mutual respect, equality, justice, and fairness,” free from political objectives, and within the boundaries of all legal international procedures designed to advance and support human rights.

By a vote of 80 to 28, with 68 abstentions, the Third Committee of the General Assembly approved the draught resolution titled “Situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran” on Wednesday.

The Canadian government put out the draught resolution in response to reports of a violent “crackdown” on Iranian rallies that were allegedly started after Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian lady in police detention, died.

Since mid-September, riots have broken out in several Iranian towns amid demonstrations against the passing of 22-year-old Amini, who passed out at a police station in Tehran and was declared dead three days later in the hospital.

Although the incident was first mostly attributed to the police, a later official study by Iran’s forensic authorities found that Amini’s death was brought on by disease rather than purported blows to the skull or other important body parts.

Using the protests as a pretext, rioters and thugs—many of whom it was later discovered had connections to foreign parties—went on the rampage, brutally attacking security personnel, engaging in vandalism, desecrating holy sites, and carrying out false-flag killings of civilians to bring the Iranian police into disrepute.

Iran’s security system makes no mistake about the distinction between nonviolent demonstrations and riots that endanger lives and damage both public and private property.

The US, supported by the UK, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and other allies, devised a complex plan to incite riots in the Islamic Republic and guide the wave of violence, according to various reports released by Iran’s top intelligence agencies late last month.
