Babar Azam becomes first Pakistani batter to hit most fifty plus score in a year

Babar Azam, Pakistan’s captain, has added another feather to his cap by being the first Pakistani player to achieve the most fifty-century runs in a calendar year.

Azam achieved the feat when playing against England in the third and final Test in Karachi, where he scored 74 runs in the team’s first innings.

In total, the star batter hammered 23 fifty-plus scores in a year, breaking the record set by previous skipper Misbahul Haq in 2013.

This year, Pakistan’s skipper scored nine Test fiftys, eight ODI fiftys, and ten T20 fiftys.

Kumar Sangakara of Sri Lanka had 25 fifties in 2014, whereas Ricky Ponting had 24 fifty-plus in 2005.

“Baber Azam is not even a star,” says journalist Aftab Iqbal
