TEHRAN – Authorities in Iran detained well-known actress Taraneh Alidoosti on Sunday for supporting a man who had been put to death for his participation in the anti-state protests.

Alidosti, the Oscar-winning star of “The Salesman,” was detained a week after expressing support for Mohsen Shekari, 23, who was put to death in response to demonstrations by the Iranian government, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

Alidosti was accused of “spreading falsehoods” regarding the widespread demonstrations that have engulfed Iran since the passing of Mahsa Amini, 22, in September.

Two men who were first detained on charges relating to protests and the capital offence of “Moharabeh,” or “waging war against God,” were previously put to death by the Iranian government.

Alidoosti was detained, per the report posted on IRNA’s official Telegram channel, since she failed to offer “any documentation in support of her assertions.”

“His name was Mohsen Shekari. Every international organisation who is watching this bloodshed and not taking action, is a disgrace to humanity,” said Alidoosti on her Instagram.
