Imran Khan sends Rs10bn defamation notice to the health minister. Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel has received a defamation notice from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for disseminating “wrongful, baseless, false, misleading, erroneous, malicious and defamatory” information during his press conference on May 26.
Imran allegedly underwent tests while in custody earlier this month, and the government released private medical reports last week claiming that no fractures were discovered on Imran’s legs, but that alcohol and an illegal drug were detected in his urine sample, and that his mental stability was in doubt.
Imran urged Patel to retract his claims “in the same mode and manner in which you made them in the first place” and offer an unequivocal apology while also acknowledging “you have misstated” in the notice.
Additionally, it demanded that the minister pay Rs. 10 billion as restitution for defaming Imran and making untrue accusations against him. This money would be given to the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre. Additionally, it urged Patel to stop making more disparaging remarks.
As Imran Khan sends Rs10bn defamation notice to the health minister, the notice stated that if the minister didn’t file a lawsuit within 15 days, Imran would be forced to do so.
In a press conference on May 26, Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel stated that the PTI leader’s body had alcohol and cocaine traces.
The minister claimed that the report lacked information about the leg fracture that Khan claimed he suffered during a failed assassination attempt in November 2022. He claimed Imran Khan had a plaster on his leg for about five to six months, but the medical report indicated there was no fracture.
He added that the initial report had revealed excessive alcohol and cocaine use and that the PTI chief’s urine had also been collected.
According to Patel, the report also called into question the PTI chairman’s mental stability.
A copy of the report circulating on social media states, “The gentleman was examined and appears under stress with anxiety symptoms. There was extensive anger/anxiety about the events happening in the last few weeks. He had little insight into the seriousness and reality of the current situation. The mental stability is questionable. There were some inappropriate gestures”.
