Pakistan requests IMF about relief in energy prices amid protests. Pakistan has requested IMF assistance to decrease the cost of electricity for the general public.

Interim Finance Minister Shamshad Akhtar presented various ideas during a virtual meeting with IMF spokeswoman Esther Perez Ruiz, and the IMF sought a formal plan.

According to local media, the finance ministry and the IMF discussed lowering the cost of power bills.

The crisis caused by the increase in electricity rates was reported to the international lender.

As Pakistan requests IMF about relief in energy prices amid protests, according to ministry officials, a number of ideas for lower electricity rates were made to the IMF.

Pakistan’s position on decreasing energy prices was relayed to the IMF. It has requested a specific strategy for lowering electricity costs.

According to Finance Ministry sources, the formal proposal will most likely be sent to the IMF by the end of the day.

The first-month performance of the Federal Board of Revenue was also examined during the virtual meeting with the IMF.

In July, taxes of Rs538 billion were collected in the current fiscal year, exceeding the monthly target by Rs 4 billion.

According to the sources, the IMF has examined the FBR’s performance. It also congratulated FBR for meeting the tax target.
